Programme

This weekend of events for all the family will combine music, history & heritage, arts & crafts and more. The programme so far (more events and activities to follow):

Thursday 4 April: The John Newton Lecture:

8pm at The Exchange, Castle Avenue, Buncrana. With historian Marylynn Rouse (hosted by the West Inishowen History and Heritage Group). Learning the fascinating story of John Newton from the world’s leading expert on his life and works.  Discover how one man’s personal transformation has helped to change history.  And learn the vital role that Lough Swilly played in his life.  Free event including refreshments (donations welcome).

Friday 5 April: “The story of Amazing Grace” – film documentary

11am at The Exchange, Castle Avenue, Buncrana.  Free showing of the BBC documentary about the world’s most famous hymn with free refreshments and a chance to browse an exhibition on the life and works of John Newton.

Friday 5 April:  Night of a Thousand Stars – songs of Freedom, Hope & Joy

Community concert in aid of “The Exchange” – a new community resource centre for Buncrana featuring music from all ages. 7.30pm at The Plaza Theatre, Main Street, Buncrana. Featuring Encore Contemporary Choir.  Tickets €8 adults / €4 under 12s and concessions.

Saturday 6 April: Craft Fair

11am – 4pm at The Exchange, Castle Avenue, Buncrana.  Browse local crafts, stop for a cuppa or tuck into tasty treats in Buncrana’s newest community resource.  Free entry.

Saturday 6 April: Family Fun Day:

12 noon – 4pm in Main St, Buncrana featuring arts and crafts, 18th Century toys and games, fun food, competitions and prizes, face painting, balloon modelling and much more.

Belfast Community Gospel Choir in concert: Saturday 6 April:

Important update:

A guided history and heritage walk on Sunday 7 April leaving from The Coffee Cup, next to Supervalu, Buncrana at 2pm.
And Buncrana’s own choir The Gateway Singers performing LIVE on Castle Bridge in a special free open air concert to mark the anniversary of John Newton’s arrival in Buncrana (8 April 1748) at 6pm on Monday 8 April.
