Celebrate the inspirational story of John Newton, his dramatic arrival in Buncrana and the lasting impact of his life and work.   The “Amazing Grace Festival” features fun and uplifting events for all ages including history, music, dance, competitions, arts and crafts, exhibitions, field trips, creative writing, family fun, spiritual inspiration and much more.

Saturday 5 April

FAMILY FUN DAY
11am – 4pm @ The Exchange, Castle Avenue, Buncrana
A fun-packed day for all the family including games, arts & crafts, competitions, balloon modelling, face painting, fun food, music & much more.  Admission FREE.

Sunday 6 April

“HIGH CROSSES OF INISHOWEN” – guided bus tour
Leaving 2pm from outside Supervalu, Buncrana.  Cost €5 per person.  (Family ticket €15.)

Visit the treasures of Inishowen’s Christian heritage including St Mura’s Cross in Fahan and the Donagh Cross in Carndonagh. THE JOHN NEWTON LECTURE

“Fighting for Freedom – Ireland and the abolition of slavery”

7.30pm @ The Exchange, Castle Avenue, Buncrana. Admission free.  Light refreshments available.

While slavery demonstrates man’s inhumanity to man, the abolition movement represents the struggle for dignity and freedom.  Ruth Garvey-Williams traces moments of triumph and tragedy from Ireland’s history in the on-going battle to eradicate an evil trade.

LAND AHOY!

Celebrating the anniversary of John Newton’s arrival in Lough Swilly
6pm @ the Amazing Grace Viewing Point, Cahir O’Doherty Avenue, Buncrana.

Featuring a re-enactment of Newton’s arrival as part of a short, colourful and interactive programme bringing history to life.  Suitable for all the family.  Followed by free light refreshments at The Exchange, Castle Avenue, Buncrana.
