Firing of the guns at Dunree

On August 28, 2013 by admin

Heritage Week came to an end with a “bang” on Sunday 25th August. Fort Dunree and West Inishowen History and Heritage group created a Family Fun event featuring the firing of the Dunree canons throughout the afternoon.
Dozens of families enjoyed a fun-filled afternoon with a craft fair, bouncy castles, arts and crafts, games and balloons as well as the opportunity to visit the Dunree Museum and to walk around the historic fort. Some of them even walked for the first time all the way to the top, enjoying the spectacular views, this site has to offer.
Local photographers were on hand to capture the moment when the guns fired which pyrotechnic experts had to make last minute adjustments to ensure maximum blast!
Visitors described the event as a “great family day out” and “lots of fun” while for the museum and WIHH it was a chance to bring local history to life – a fitting end to a wonderful Heritage Week.
