About the Project

The Mabel Colhoun Cataloguing Project was developed in 2016 and launched in January 2017.  It is an official partnership between Derry City and Strabane District Council and West Inishowen History and Heritage Society. The projects’ main aims are to:

  • Fully catalogue every single item within the vast Mabel Remington Colhoun Collection (Tower Museum) and then upload the results to the Tower Museum’s online database.
  • Provide each individual item with a reference number.
  • To assist with the preservation of the collection.
  • To make the contents of the collection searchable anywhere in the world.
  • To highlight the collection to a wider audience and make it easily searchable both onsite and online.
  • To promote knowledge of the achievements of Mabel Remington Colhoun, especially her archaeology work on the Inishowen peninsula.

The project is self-financed with WIH&HS cataloguers offering their time and expertise free of charge. The cataloguing project is based in the Tower Museum (main building and occasionally offsite) and is facilitated by Tower Museum staff. The project is expected to run from January 2017 until July 2018.
